Teamwork, Leadership, humility, openmindedness

I didn't do all of these on the same day, but I kind of forgot about blogging them. I did teamwork when I had to work on a project for my Spanish class. I let the group take the reins on it and contributed when needed, usually I try to take the lead on things like that. Flow was actually pretty high which surprised me. I also felt less stressed about the project as a whole.

The next day we shot a video for the Spanish project. I took the lead on this one, mainly because it was my camera :). It went really well. We all had a lot of fun. I put the video together with a program I have on my computer. Flow was ok, and I stressed out a little when my computer was having problems.

I did humility at work last week. I started working at Gallup which is like telemarketing except we do surveys instead of sell things. I had 120% capacity on my third day on the phones. Everyone I started with was talking about how well they were doing, no one was doing as well as me. So I chose to stay quiet and not say how well I was doing. This is what I usually do. I feel bad for kind of lying but I'd feel worse for bragging. It really bothers me though when someone else is really bragging and I know I did better. At times like that I really want to knock them down a few pegs, I guess that's my competitive side.

I also used openmindedness at work. They tell us that the intro. is everything when trying to do surveys. I really like to figure things out on my own but the intros I was trying weren't working so I asked for help. It worked, I started doing better on the surveys and felt better about the situation. I should really ask for help more often.

Creativity, Originality

On Sunday November 25th, I was a little bored so I decided to work on one of my not so strong points. I wrote a poem. I've written maybe 5 poems in my lifetime so I've done it before but am not that great about it. They usually come out when I start writing something else and I suddenly get an idea. This time I actually set out to write one. Not so good. I struggled with it and almost quit twice. Did you know nothing rhymes with purple, orange, or silver? I didn't enjoy it, usually I do enjoy writing but not this time. There was no flow, I felt like it took forever and couldn't wait to be done with it.

Humor and Playfulness

On Wednesday, November 21st I invited some of my friends from high school over to my house to play some Wii. We told funny stories, jokes, and teased each other. It was a lot of fun, I didn't realize how much I missed them. I definitely felt happy afterwards. Flow was also really high, everyone stayed til after 1 AM and probably would have stayed later if we hadn't seen the time.

Zest and Energy

On Monday, November 19th my dorm floor went laser tagging. I think this was an excellent activity for energy and zest. I really got into it and was running all over the place trying to shoot the other team. I even got really competitive after my team lost the first two games. I'm happy to say my team won the last two. I really enjoyed this activity. I felt really excited during and after and enjoyed the competitiveness. Flow was pretty high as I didn't realize we had been playing for a whole hour. It felt like we had only been there for 15 minutes. It was a good time and I would definitely do it again.

Signature Strengths

The first time I took the test I had: Kindness & Generosity; Humor & Playfulness; Modesty & Humility; Citizenship, Teamwork, & Loyalty; and Leadership. From this list I decided to choose Modesty & Humility, Humor & Playfulness, Leadership, and Citizenship, Teamwork, & Loyalty.

The second time I took the test Humor & Playfulness, and Modesty & Humility were taken out which really surprised me. In their place were Judgement, Critical Thinking, & Open-mindedness, and Fairness, equality, & Justice. From that list I chose only Judgement, Critical Thinking & Open-mindedness.

The bottom five on my list were: Zest, Enthusiasm, & Energy; Hope, Optimism, & Future-mindedness; Self-control & Self-regulation; Forgiveness & Mercy; and Crativity, Ingenuity, & Originality. I have chosen to include all these for this exercise.
